Applications
Isobond CDI is a solvent-free waterborne 40% active polycarbodiimide crosslinker, presented as an odorless liquid. Compared to other carbodiimide cross-linkers, Isobond CDI is more hydrophobic and boasts a significantly extended pot life. The pot life of Isobond CDI tends to extend further at elevated pH levels.
By adding 4 - 8% of Isobond CDI to water-based acrylic emulsions or urethane dispersions, there's a notable enhancement in water, chemical, and abrasion resistance. It also amplifies adhesion to specific substrates. For optimal curing, Isobond CDI necessitates a reaction temperature ranging between 100-120 C.
Recommendations for end-use include:
Utilization in water-based lacquers to bolster resistance to water, alcohol, detergent, chemicals, blocking, and abrasion.
Application in PVC coatings to mitigate plasticizer migration and heighten stain resistance.
Broadly, it's used to enhance the adhesion of waterborne systems to non-polar substrates.
Formulating guidelines highlight that Isobond CDI crosslinks polymers bearing reactive carboxyl functionality. It's advised to incorporate it into lacquers, polymers, or inks before utilization.
Handling, Storage and Packaging
12 months from delivery in closed containers.
The product is stable for at least one year when stored in sealed original packing at temperatures between 5°C and 30°C without exposure to sunlight. Sensitive to frost. Stir up before using.
