Zinc Oxide for Feed Additives
Zinc oxide is added to many food products, including breakfast cereals, as a source of zinc, a necessary nutrient. Some prepackaged foods also include trace amounts of ZnO even if it is not intended as a nutrient.
Zinc oxide was linked to dioxin contamination in pork exports in the 2008 Chilean pork crisis. The contamination was found to be due to dioxin contaminated zinc oxide used in pig feed.
